Deadlines for submission:

If course is scheduled to take effect in Spring or Summer the deadline is September 1 of the year before (For Example: Spring 2018 revisions must be submitted by 9/1/2017)

If course is scheduled to take effect in Fall the deadline is December 1 of the year before revision is to take effect (For Example: Fall 2018 revisions must be submitted by 12/1/2017)

Learning goals and general course description for the capstone requirements in the common curriculum

In order to complete a major, every student must meet the capstone requirement described by the department or program responsible for the major. The course or courses constituting the capstone must be taken at CSB/SJU - that is, the requirement cannot be met by work that has been accepted by the institution as transfer credit.

The capstone requirement for each major will meet the learning goals and general course description given below.

Learning Goals:

Students will demonstrate appropriate ability to work independently in their major discipline.
Students will demonstrate appropriate ability to integrate a variety of resources and learning from their major and, when appropriate, from across their undergraduate studies.
Students will demonstrate appropriate ability to present and discuss their work.

General Course description:

Each major program will develop its own capstone experience, using the following criteria for guidance:

The capstone should ordinarily be available only to senior majors.
The capstone will require a minimum of two credits, at the 300-level.
Departments will describe in detail how their capstone will fulfill the learning goals within the context of their own disciplines and in ways appropriate to senior undergraduates.
Programs may provide multiple options for satisfying the capstone requirement.
Students with double majors ordinarily will complete the capstone in each major. With the approval in advance of both departments, a student may complete a single capstone that integrates both majors rather than a separate capstone in each major.
