In the spirit of Benedictine Hospitality we in the Library are always looking for ways to be more welcoming. The catalog, searchable from the library home page, uses language in subject headings that may be outdated. New functionality allows us to overlay this old and potentially harmful language with current terminology. With the thousands of subject headings in use in our system we can’t simply find and fix every problematic term on our own, so we invite our CSB and SJU community to let us know about terms encountered in the system and any suggestions for more respectful language. These suggestions will be reviewed and discussed with campus experts to make sure subject terms are respectful of all persons.
If you have any questions please contact Miranda Novak.
