Acceptance to the nursing major is determined by the following policies. Carefully review and CHECK EACH BOX to acknowledge your understanding of each statement.

Applicants must complete four prerequisite courses: Biology 100, Biology 212, Nutrition 113, and Psychology 111 with a grade of C or higher.

Qualified candidates must have a 2.75 or higher prerequisite GPA after spring semester grades have been published.

The nursing major will only accept qualified applicants up to seventy-two (72) students annually. Students must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for acceptance to the nursing program. Acceptance to the major is competitive and all qualified students may not be accepted.

Acceptance is based on timely submission of this Application to the Nursing Major Form (due May 27). Applicants are accepted in the following priority order:

Qualified CSB/SJU Direct Admission Program (DAP) students
Qualified CSB/SJU ROTC students
Qualified other CSB/SJU students
Qualified Transfer students
Late (after May 22 deadline) qualified applicants

If there is a tie in the nursing prerequisite GPA, then the College Cumulative GPA will be used to break the tie.

Repeating and withdrawing from courses:

a. Prerequisite, corequisite, and NRSG-designated courses may be repeated one time. (Exception: If the same grade or lower grade is obtained when a course is taken again, it will not be counted as a repeat course; it is only counted as a repeat course if a higher grade is achieved).

b. If a student repeats a prerequisite, corequisite or NRSG-designated course, the higher grade is used to calculate the nursing GPA.

c. A prerequisite, corequisite, or NRSG designated course may only be taken two times, regardless of the resulting grade.

d. A student is limited to no more than two course withdrawals (as noted with a W on the transcript) or retakes (or combination thereof) in prerequisite, corequisite, or NRSG-designated courses.

e. If a student takes a prerequisite course while in high school and takes the equivalent prerequisite course after high school, this will not be counted as a course repeat (or withdrawal if the course is not completed). If a course is taken more than once after high school graduation, it will be considered a course repeat (or withdrawal if the course is not completed).

f. Corequisite courses that need to be repeated must be repeated within two semesters.

I have read the Technical Standards Policy and reviewed the list of Technical Standards Abilities for nursing students. See document link below. I understand that I must be able to demonstrate that I can meet these technical standards and continue to do so throughout the nursing program, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Students preliminarily accepted to the nursing major must complete a criminal background study through the MN Department of Health and Human Services. A student who is not cleared to provide direct contact services as a result of a disqualified criminal background study is not eligible for the nursing major.

Students preliminarily accepted to the nursing major must meet additional requirements prior to final acceptance. These requirements include, but are not limited to, CPR certification, tuberculin testing, immunizations, and health clearance. More information can be found on the Nursing website here:
