Saint John's Energy Conservation Pledge

Being a part of this world, I understand that energy consumption at all levels affects our natural environment and the health and well being of humans. By filling this form out, I pledge to support St. John's University's commitment to conserve energy.

By signing this form, I pledge to do the following when feasible:

*Use lights only when necessary (without risking safety)

*Turn off lights as I leave a room or when I pass by an empty room, while encouraging others to do so as well.

*Make the switch to using LED or Compact Florescent Light Bulbs (CFL's) in place of incandescent bulbs.

*Avoid using heating and air conditioning whenever possible.

*Keep doors and windows closed when the heat or air conditioning is on.

*Prevent vampire energy loss by unplugging my electrical devices when not in use.

*Learn how to change the power settings on my computer to "energy saver" modes when possible.

*Try to do full loads of laundry and use cold water.

*Take the the stairs instead of using the elevator when possible.

*Use water wisely (especially hot water; take 5 minute showers, turn the faucet off when you are brushing your teeth, etc...)

*Take the Link between campuses when possible, and to carpool if I do have to drive somewhere.

*Communicate to the physical plant when I have a facility problem (heater/air conditioning broken, leaky faucets, etc)

*Educate myself and others on how to conserve energy and encourage others to take this pledge so as to promote sustainability on campus.
