The purpose of this 1-credit course is to help first-year students transition to college at CSB and SJU by fostering a sense of belonging, promoting engagement in the curricular and co-curricular life, and developing skills to help set them up for success during their time at CSB and SJU.
Instructors of this course need not be experts in all content areas, but should feel comfortable and skilled in facilitating group discussion as students will be asked to reflect on their campus experiences and assignments for the course. Each section will be assigned one student Peer Mentor to assist with facilitation of the course and to provide high-quality mentorship to the students in your section. We estimate the course will require around 40 hours of instructor time over the course of the semester. This would include the weekly class meeting (55 mins), grading, class preparation, and meeting with Peer Mentors and students outside of class.
