The CSB|SJU Chemistry Department is able to offer the opportunity for students to conduct research with faculty members this summer in the Ardolf Science Center. Students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors in the fall of 2025 will be considered, with a very strong preference for chemistry and biochemistry majors. At this time it is anticipated that at least nine students will be hired for research in the Chemistry Department.
Professors Fazal, Raigoza, Peterson, and Strollo will be considering applications from potential research students. They will post summaries of their research projects here: https://www.csbsju.edu/chemistry/student-resources/undergraduate-research.
Applications: If you are interested in applying to work in the Chemistry Department, please view the posted project descriptions and complete the online application form below. Export your transcript as a pdf from Banner. Review of completed applications will start March 3. Students will be notified of first-round acceptances before spring break.
Time and Money: The program typically runs for 9 weeks, Monday, June 2 to Friday, August 1st. The hourly wage for this summer has not been set. However, it will be similar to previous years, when researchers earned $14.68 per hour and a $1,600 allowance for room and board. Please note that these earnings are subject to taxes.
Other Programs: In addition to this and other related CSB|SJU programs, we receive announcements for summer research opportunities on other campuses; these are usually posted on the bulletin board across from ASC 218. These are also posted in the Chemistry Department Student Resources Canvas site. See also the listing of National Science Foundation-supported programs at http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.cfm Typically they pay $3000-8000 for ten weeks, with some programs providing additional money for travel to the site and/or room and board. Application deadlines occur in January to early March.
Do you have specific professors on whose projects you are interested in working (see descriptions at the site posted above)? Please list in order of preference, only listing faculty who are listed above as mentoring student research this summer.
