Benedictine Day of Service 2025

Benedictine Day of Service is a time for CSB and SJU alums to put into action the Benedictine Values of community and hospitality by serving the common good in their local areas. We are asking alums to organize and host a service project on or around Saturday, April 12, 2025, in a coordinated effort to serve our communities. Thank you for your interest in coordinating a Benedictine Day of Service event.

As an alum lead in your city or region, we are asking you to take on a few key responsibilities:

  1. Identify a project to address a basic need of your community.
  2. Use the Finding a Project Tip Sheet to create a Day of Service project for alums in your local area. Reach out to a local non-profit, church, community center, food shelf, or other organization to inquire about scheduling a group service project on or around Saturday, April 12, 2025. Work with this organization to keep them informed about the scope of the project, and updates about how many volunteers have registered to attend.
  3. Fill out the Benedictine Day of Service form below with as much information as you can by Friday, February 7, 2025. CSB and SJU will then create supportive marketing materials to promote your service opportunity to area alums.
  4. Invite CSB and SJU alums and their families to volunteer with you on this service project. Use your personal network and the contact information CSB+SJU will send you to invite local alums to volunteer. CSB and SJU will also promote your event via e-mail and social media channels. Encourage participants to wear their CSB/SJU apparel!
  5. Gather any resources or materials needed for the Day of Service project.
  6. Take photos of the project as appropriate.
  7. Follow up with CSB and SJU regarding any successes and challenges you experienced in hosting the service project. Send the contact sheet and photos back to the CSB and SJU Alum Office.
  8. Fill out an evaluation and help us plan for future Benedictine Day of Service events.

Once you submit this form, we will provide:

  1. Any follow up questions about your Day of Service event, so we can build an e-mail invitation and registration form that fits your needs.
  2. A list of Bennies and Johnnies who live or work in your region or city, including the contact information we have so that you can begin inviting them to attend.
  3. An event kit that will include supplies and materials such as nametags, a check-in sheet, list of registrants, and CSB+SJU swag to use for giveaways/door prizes.

Please contact any of The Benedictine Day of Service Planning Team leaders with questions. The team leaders are Joan VanGrinsven Doss '13 ([email protected]) and Joseph Schwamm '21 ([email protected]).
