Academic Achievement, Part 1: Application Essay
The application essay provides context for your GPA and grades and helps the awards committee understand how you have grown intellectually in the English major.
Please upload your essay as a Word (.docx) document. Do not include your name or other identifying information on this document.
Write a short essay (400-600 words) in response to the following prompt: Reading can change a curious person in profound ways. How has your reading life in college changed you? Choose a reading moment—a passage, a poem, a novel, a story—that was important to you and describe its effects. These effects might include: a new or wider view of the world, the evolution of your intellect, a change in a relationship in your life, or a consequential shift in your actions. Be specific and concrete (avoid clichés!) about these reading effects and their value to you.
Academic Achievement, Part 2: Coursework and Grades
Your current overall CSB/SJU GPA: _____
Please list the English courses you have taken and are currently taking. For courses you have completed, please note your final grade. Include ENGL Course Number and Title of course as well as the grade you received for each course.
Irish Literature
The Sister Kirstin Malloy English Award seeks to recognize students who have demonstrated particular interest in Irish literature. If you have significant engagement with Irish literature, please describe the evidence of your engagement below. Evidence could include classes you have taken (at CSB/SJU or elsewhere) or essays or assignments you have completed on Irish literature.
